Today I had the opportunity to check in with Pamela, who is in high spirits. She has her student teaching assignment now, as the assistant to a middle school history teacher, and while she has some anxiety about it, she is excitedly making plans. In fact, her friends are finding it necessary to steer her away from the topic of teaching after an hour or so, or she will go on all night.
One of those friends, I am pleased to report, is Andrew, who seems to have taken his rejection in good part. He came to visit Pamela about a week after her return from London, and while there was some wistfulness in his aura, he was cheerful and pleased to hear about her plans. That wistfulness has begun to fade, to the point that last night she was able to tell him about Lyle.
Despite all my worries, Pamela has shown no signs of pining for Lyle. They have exchanged a few emails, but they are brief, newsy notes as might be written by any two acquaintances wishing to keep in touch. Perhaps that contact will fade in time, or perhaps they will become good friends, but that is all.
Andrew took the news of Pamela’s lover very well, I thought. The news at first gave him a pang of jealousy, but he quelled it quickly and listened with interest to Pamela’s story of the fling. By the time she had finished, he was grinning.
“Some people have all the luck,” he said. “Last time I was on vacation, I had pneumonia, not a whirlwind romance.”
That story had to be told, of course, and then Andrew mentioned that he has a date in a week, which made Pamela happy. I was glad to hear it, too, and I think I may look in on them, to give what assistance I can.
Pamela herself has no candidates for a partnership in mind, but I am not worried. A new job always means new people and friendships, and so I will have more chances to find someone who deserves her. I will inform you when I have more information.
