It brings joy to me, that the humans have a single day on which they celebrate love. Of course it is often tainted by money, by manipulation, by power, by any number of wicked things. Still, the simple fact that this day exists is an encouragement to me. How could it not be, when I am a Cupid? Today belongs to me and my sisters and brothers.
We will be out in force, all of us, even the uninitiated. I remember last year, when Danit first brought me down to the Garden, her wings protecting me when I did not yet have my own. She was working with a married couple who had been separated while he was abroad serving in the military. His return led to some difficulty for them, as he tried to shield his wife from what he had been through. It was my idea to speak to the wife, encourage her to show him that she was ready to hear about his troubles, that she could bear them with him.
Danit tells me that they are happy now, that though he still has trouble at nights sometimes, they have found ways to cope together. They are expecting their first child soon.
The seniors will venture down, too. Danit, Kuya, Jariel—even Shemida and Zezette will come. Even Anteros, our Elder, whose usual work either confines him to heaven or is kept secret even from his fellow Cupids. He is the only Dominion among us, ancient and powerful, and such a glorious force for goodness and love. I have not met him myself, but I hope to glimpse him at work today.
The sun is rising. It is time for us to be off, to the glory of the King of love.
