Only time for a quick update, but Inca has just told me something that I must pass on or I will burst with the joy of it. Theo and Cayce are going to be reunited.
Ever since their separation, Theo has continued the search for her friend. Her parents have been very supportive, well aware that Cayce likely saved Theo’s life while she was living homeless. They did manage to persuade Theo to come back home, where she is now trying to catch up on her studies, but she visits Detroit often to get updates on the search.
Cayce, meanwhile, also searched for Theo for a time, but then, in trying to protect Rudy from another stray, she was bitten and the wound became infected. She went to a clinic, where they not only gave her the treatment she needed, but also referred her to a church that helps the homeless. With their assistance, she made her way back to the town where her grown daughter lives. They mended their differences, and then she began again to look for Theo. Just last night, she found an old missing ad for Theo and called the number on it.
Inca tells me that Theo’s mother believes that to be the second most wonderful call she has ever received. The moment she heard who was on the other end of the line, she passed the phone to Theo, and she relished Theo’s tears of joy.
The two of them will meet in a week’s time at Theo’s home. Cayce’s daughter will come with them, and they will spend the day together.
I am so glad to be able to tell you this. Such joyful things should not be kept silent, do you not think?
